Database Administration
The increasing volumes of information generated by the Internet and electronic business in today's world means that there is a growing need to be able to store, manage and extract data quickly and effectively. This in turn has caused the role of the database manager or administrator to become more and more prominent.
As a database administrator your overall aim is to keep the system fully operational at all times and to provide users with access to required information when they need it. It is your job to identify user requirements, design and set up databases to meet them, apply security measures and test and modify the system when necessary. You will need to have a thorough understanding of both the software and hardware of the system with which you are working so that you can ensure that it performs to its optimum level.
To make a successful career as a database administrator you will probably need a two or four-year degree in management information systems, computer or information science.
