Is a Career in Technology Right for You?
Technology has evolved into a key component of the global economy. The use of advanced computer and technological systems for communications and data management is now a major feature of most organizations' activities. The increasing significance of the Internet has reinforced that position. Consequently, there has never been a better time to consider embarking on an information technology career.
An information technology job can take a number of forms. You might work as a web site developer, using a variety of computer languages to create dynamic websites. You could also work in management information systems (MIS) overseeing the collection, organization and distribution of information. Network administrators are responsible for the hardware and software aspects of linking many computers together. Companies now employ people who specialize in the Internet, the biggest network of all.
There are many contenders for these highly-skilled and well-paid jobs. If you want to compete successfully for employment, then you need a college education to earn a degree in information technology. A degree program will offer courses in networks, databases, computer hardware, and computer languages, among others. As you will be working with computers, this is a degree program which lends itself particularly well to online education.
